October War Panorama (Tishreen War Panorama)

Masakin Barzeh، Damascus

Landmark

The October War Panorama (also called the Tishreen War Panorama) is a national military museum in Damascus dedicated to Syria’s narrative of the 1973 October War. Visitors approach a circular, fortress-like building ringed with outdoor displays of tanks, artillery and aircraft.

Inside, the signature experience is a large-scale 3D panorama of the battle for Quneitra, viewed from a rotating platform with an audio narration. Galleries emphasize Syrian and Arab nationalism through monumental paintings, propaganda-era reliefs and captured enemy hardware. It suits military-history enthusiasts, travelers interested in modern Middle Eastern history and politics, and photographers drawn to striking sculptural architecture and outdoor exhibits.

The site is on the northeastern side of the city and is easy to spot from the main road; most visitors reach it by taxi or microbus.

History

The museum was inaugurated in 1998 and was built with assistance from North Korea, whose Mansudae artists contributed socialist‑realist murals and reliefs. Beyond the 1973 war, exhibits also touch on later clashes with Israel, while the rotating panorama dramatizes the recapture-and-loss saga of Quneitra on the Golan Heights.
